2024 Interior Design Trends
This is the second part of the Homestyler 2024: User Design Insights Report. This section comes after the “Design Styles Section” and delves into the forward-looking trends that are set to influence the future of interior design. (*The data in this report is sourced from designs publicly posted by users in the Homestyler Community in 2024.)
Based on the 2024 usage data from Homestyler users, the overall trends lean towards more sustainable designs, increased use of natural materials, and warmer color tones.
1. Sustainable Designs
As environmental awareness grows, eco-design—centered around the use of renewable materials and sustainable design principles—is becoming increasingly popular. The concept of ecological architecture emphasizes harmonious coexistence between buildings and the natural environment. It focuses on efficient resource utilization, reducing negative environmental impacts, and enhancing the comfort and health of human living spaces. The “closer to nature” design trend will remain popular in 2024 and beyond, incorporating natural elements or imitating nature through design to create more harmonious and tranquil living environments:
1.1 Incorporating living walls or greenery into interior spaces not only enhances aesthetics but also improves air quality, providing a healthier living environment.

1.2 Through thoughtful layout, increasing natural lighting and ventilation in interior spaces can reduce the need for artificial lighting and air conditioning. This can be achieved by incorporating design elements such as large windows and skylights.

2. Natural Materials
In material selection, reclaimed wood, bamboo, stone, and other natural materials are frequently used for their health and safety benefits and their contribution to protecting the natural ecosystem. High-quality eco-friendly materials generally offer superior durability and comfort, creating more livable environments and enhancing overall quality of life. The use of natural materials aligns with modern society’s sustainable development goals, striking a balance between aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.
1.1 Wood
Wood is highly favored for its warm and rustic qualities. From flooring and furniture to accent walls, wood infuses interior spaces with a natural charm and textural beauty. Its diverse tones and textures allow it to seamlessly integrate with a variety of design styles.

3. Warmer Color Tones
Grey tones were indeed very popular in interior design from 2010 to the early 2020s, largely influenced by minimalist and modern design trends. Many people opted for neutral shades to create a clean, elegant, and contemporary home atmosphere. However, in recent years, neutral or cool grey tones have become less dominant as the preferred choice for residential spaces. Increasingly, people are gravitating towards warm color palettes that offer a sense of coziness and warmth, reflecting a shift in design preferences towards more inviting and comforting environments.
In recent years, the world has faced various uncertainties, such as the pandemic, climate change, and economic fluctuations. As a result, people have increasingly sought to create a warm and secure haven at home, and warm color palettes provide this psychological comfort visually. Bright and light tones, such as soft warm greys, beiges, and light browns, continue to be popular in 2024. Additionally, nature-inspired colors, like earth tones that resemble the hues of soil, are favored by many designers. These soft colors help create a sense of safety and relaxation within the home, offering a comforting retreat from the outside world.

Future design trends will continue to be driven by technological advancements, social changes, and environmental awareness. Designers will place greater emphasis on sustainable development, using eco-friendly materials and processes. Minimalism, along with sustainable design and green concepts, will continue to be enduring themes in interior design.
